The FS-X1 is a convertible helmet: run it as a full face, or take the chin section off and ride it open. Certification is ECE 22.06, the current European standard, which tests impact at eighteen points on the shell where the standard it replaced tested six.
Vision is handled in two layers - an outer visor plus a drop-down internal sun membrane that works like sunglasses you do not have to carry - and the closure is a quick-fasten type you can do up in gloves.
One thing to understand before you buy it: with the chin bar removed this is no longer a full-face helmet, and it does not protect like one. In that configuration the visor serves as a sun shade rather than as impact protection. Fit the chin bar for anything where a full face is what you actually want.
